Marianna Coltari wants to avoid declaring allegiance to the Purists or the Loyalists in the erupting Amoveo Civil war. With the Purists attempting to force undeclared pure-bloods to their side, her brother, Dante, sends his human friend, Pete Castro, to keep a protective eye on her. Marianna is furious at this interference but she is equally startled to feel an undeniable attraction to the handsome ex-cop.

Pete knew Marianna was a party girl. He knew she would be attractive. He didn't know she would be spectacularly beautiful. Or that all his instincts would want her more than any other woman he'd ever met. The problem, though, was that she was his buddy's sister and the unbreakable guy rule said he had to stay clear of her. But with the Purists after her, Pete would have to stay close enough to protect her…even if she could shapeshift into a Kodiak bear.

Then Marianna begins dreaming about Pete, an unfailing sign that he was her destined mate and things start to heat up to inferno temperatures.

I've got to say, I liked the first three Amoveo books but this one…it surpasses the others by leaps and bounds. As a note, though, if you haven't read the other books, you may want to do so before starting this one. It doesn't quite stand alone even if it is an excellent read.

I enjoyed the fact that Ms Humphreys went out of the box by pairing a paranormal female with a human male. And she did so without emasculating Pete. He stayed true to his character (a strong alpha male sort) throughout the story. Not only that but the characters, all of them, practically walk off the page. And the action plot is riveting from the very beginning. But the real draw is the romance which is handled splendidly by a talented author.

If I gave stars or comets or some such, this book would garner them all with a few extra for emphasis. You'll definitely want to read this one.
