Bite Me

Hi, everyone! It’s a pleasure to be here at Star-Crossed Romance today. And since I’m here to talk about one of my all-time favorite paranormal creatures—the vampire—I’m in a really good mood :-D

I remember the very first time I saw a vampire movie—it was the Lost Boys, and oh, but those boys were good vampires. Well, good in that nice, bad way.

Over the years, there were more vampires to come for me. I caught the Dark Shadows series when it briefly re-appeared on television. I saw the dozen or more Dracula movies that filled the movie theaters, and, when Buffy appeared, I was introduced to the wonder that was Spike.

Oh, yes, I’ve been a vampire fan for a long, long time.

The very first book I published was a vampire novel. But, then, I took a vampire detour and began writing about shape-shifters (because I do enjoy my shape-shifters!). In my upcoming release, IMMORTAL DANGER (3/31/09 from Kensington Brava), I go back to my writing roots, and I get to combine my two loves: My heroine is a vampire and my hero is a shifter.

But, Maya Black isn’t just any vampire. To borrow from my Buffy fandom, Maya Black is what Buffy would be if Buffy ever had the misfortune to become a vampire. She’s tough, she’s smart, and she doesn’t take crap from any supernatural creature.
Now, for fun, I thought I’d list a few reasons why I love vampires:

1. Eternal youth. (Come on, young and strong forever! So what if you have a liquid diet?)
2. Because, like George Hamilton in Love at First Bite, I do love the nightlife.
3. My previously mentioned Spike notation.

But what about you? Do you like the vamps? Why or why not?
Thanks!

BEING BULLET PROOF SUCKS—LITERALLY

Once, Maya Black was a kick-ass cop patrolling the streets of L.A. She still keeps the city safe, but nowadays her bad guys of choice include demons, werewolves, and assorted nocturnal scum. Something Maya knows a thing or two about. She’s a vampire—and not thrilled about it. Payback meet bitch.

Adam Brody hopes Maya is as dangerous as they say she is. He needs her to help rescue his niece Cammie from a ruthless band of vamps, and he’s willing to pay—in blood. Trusting her is another matter. Adam has never met a vampire who doesn’t lie. Then again, he’s never met anyone like Maya, who fills him with a desperate need that ignites into explosive, no-holds-barred encounters…

*Hi Cynthia - waving*

I do enjoy Vampire's if they are well done and don't veer off into 'unbelievable' territory - but then again everyone has a different scale of 'unbelievable' -thats what makes the paranormal genre so exciting. I did enjoy William & Savannah in Vampires Kiss - what was good was that instead of Savannah running away from William she actively sought him out so that he could 'change' her - it gave the book that page turning tension. A good twist.

Aah, but my favourites are shifters, particulary wolves . . . is this where I mention Colin ;) There are some characters that stay with you long after the book has been read and he is one of them.

Hi, everyone! First, thanks to Lynda and all the wonderful authors at Star-Crossed for having me here today. I'm happy to be hanging out and chatting about vampires! :-)

Hey, Willa! How are you today? I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed my characters--thank you!
When you mention the different scale of "unbelieveable"--I think you are totally right. Different folks do have different scales, and I'm always interested in seeing what other authors can come up with!

Hi, Valerie! You've just named so many of my favorite vampires! I was so upset when Moonlight got canceled! Ah!!

I love, love, love vampires also! My first vamp-crush was on Nick Night from Forever Knight. He had the angst and sexiness of being a vampire down to a science. (at least to my then teenage eyes!)

The cover for Immortal Danger is very eye-catching.

Vampire are awesome! But shifters are good, too. The book sounds great Cynthia! One of my favorite movies of all time is Innocent Blood. About a female vamp who decides to eat Italian and the undercover cop who she teams up with.

Anthony LaPaglia, young and cute.

I love good writing and a great story, but I won't buy a book just because it's about vampires. The story and characters have to appeal to me. Some writers, I'll read everything they write and I know I'll get a terrific book. Like you!

Hi Cynthia, awesome post! Vampires are so cool! And hot too of course! ;) I've always been fascinated by them, since I was a kid. I'm a big shifter fan too!

I love vampires. I think for mulitple reasons they are secretive it most have a sexual vibe and most of all it intrigues me that they live so long. I'm a big history lover and to live through so much history would be awesome.

This is my favorite genre to read, when a friend introduced me a few years ago to The Dark-Hunter series I became addicted. I'm always looking for new authors and series to read!

Hey, Holly! Oh, I remember Forever Knight--another one that was canceled too soon! And thanks for the compliment on my cover--this is my favorite cover so far!

Hi, Karin! Thank you! I have not seen Innocent Blood...okay, now you've got me heading over to Amazon to see if I can find the movie. :-)

Edie, thank you! You are so good to me. I sure hope folks enjoy reading about Maya and Adam!

Thanks, Nicole! Glad you like the post. Vampires are one of my favorite subjects (so true!).

Hey, Lisa! Living through history like that would be amazing! Think of the stories your vamp could share!

Hi, tetewa! I so agree--the Dark-Hunter series is great (Sherrilyn is an amazing author). I love seeing all the different takes that authors have with their paranormal characters.

Hi Cynthia. I love vamps, so mysteriosly seductive. It started for me way back with Barnabas Collins, then with Nick from Forever Knight.

Hi Cynthia~

I love vampires, too, and you really cannot beat a good shape-shifter either. The thing I love about vampires is they are a bit dark and mysterious and oh so sexy.

I remember and love The Lost Boys and I think that it was my first real taste of vampires with the exception of George Hamilton in Love at First Bite. Oh, I enjoyed those movies.

Chris said...

Indeed, vampires are usually so darn sexy. *thinks of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Immortals After Dark*

I love Vampires and they are my favorite of the paranormal books to read. Smart, sexy, mysterious. The Lost Boys was one of my first vampire movies too and I still love to watch it, except for the one scene with the Chinese food. I have to turn my head and not eat Chinese for a couple weeks afterword.

I love vampires.

I think they way they have been romantize has a lot to do with the way they are looked at now. Doesn't hurt that you have great stars that have portrayed vampires. :-)

Hey, Pam! Oh, I am so looking forward to the re-make (I guess this is the second re-make?) of Dark Shadows. I think Johnny Depp is going to be great in it!

Hi, Lori! I own an old VHS copy of Love at First Bite. You know, for those Saturday nights when I need my vampire fix. :-)

Oh, Chris, I LOVE Kresley Cole's Immortals! And there is so much gooz buzz about the Brotherhood--I've got to get caught up on them!

Hi, Donnas! I can't watch that food scene, either. Actually, the first time I saw it, I wasn't able to get take-out for weeks!

Larena, there have been some great stars portraying them--and I'd like to see more stars do it! I want more vamp movies!

love those vamps. Especially yours. Looking forward to your coming soon book.

I love vamps. The Lost Boys is one of my fave movies. I haven't seen the second one yet but I have it on the dvr.

Hi Cynthia,
Congrats on the upcoming release of "Immortal Danger." Christine Feehan's Dark Series is one of my favorites.

Cynthia Eden said...

Hi, Pamk! Thank you!! :-)

Amy, I saw the second one a few weekends back. Just not as good as the original, but then, I think it would be hard to live up to that one!

Hey, Jane! Thank you! And those Carpathians sure are pretty addictive. I haven't missed a story yet, and I can't wait for the next release!

My favorites these days are witches, demons (and Julie Kenner's demon-hunting soccer mom), gargoyles, succubi and such, though there are some vamps I wouldn't kick out of bed for sucking on my neck, so to speak...

I do like quirky vamp stories such as Michelle Bardsley's Broken Heart series, Erin McCarthy's Vegas vamps, Carrie Vaughn's Kitty books, MJ Davidson Betsy stories, and Dakota Cassidy Accidental friends, etc.

I used to hurry home from school to watch Dark Shadows (we're talking 5th and 6th grade, here) . Johnny Depp, you say? That'll be one re-make I'll actually look forward to!

Loved Hotter After Midnight! I'm looking forward to reading Immortal Danger.

I've loved vampires ever since I saw the movie "The Brides of Dracula" (1960) when I was eight. My sisters and I used to go to the neighborhood theatre to see a double feature of horror movies for 25 cents.

I've enjoyed all of the tv shows mentioned above and agree that they ended too soon.

I am really happy that there are so many different vampire and shifter books out today! "Immortal Danger" sounds wonderful! :)
