Heroes on a
Mission
One
of the things I've repeatedly said about paranormal romances was how I could
dig deeper with the emotional levels and play harder, heavier with angst, love
and everything in between. I think as a
reader first, I like to experience books like roller coasters. Even as I write this blog, I'm listening to
dark, angry Djent-metal so I can stay in the mood I'm trying to set while I
talk about four heroes from three books.
We'll start darkest to lightest so we end on a happy note, just like a
good set of romance stories should.
In
my upcoming Red Sage release ENDANGERED (Nights of Lust book 1) Joséf Staganov
is an angry man. Fed up with the world,
dismayed by his peers on the police force, and now hooked on the smack he was
trying to get off the streets, he's a bitter man with one goal. Do one last good deed before he's
killed. Only, when Livía and her lover
Isabella interfere with his desires to die, does he stop for a moment to
examine his true motives. When they
begin to interfere and reveal to him his true destiny, it does nothing to
undermine the real mission Joséf embarked upon when he joined the police force,
but only by walking through the fires of hell will he be able to succeed.
Kerian
from Torn to Pieces has a mission too, only it's not as finite on the
same level as Joséf's. He yearns for
love, desires a life with his lovely witch.
Only, she's looking into a ménage, which he's fine with, but the
ultimate truth slaps him in the face when he realizes who her other partner
is. The heaviness of her actions weigh
on his shoulders like a ton of bricks, as her other lover turns out to be his
former lover Jackob, another pack Alpha.
Standing accused of thievery, Jackob must remain focused on the goal he
and Iolite set about, helping the dying wolves in New Mexico find a cure for
the sickness that plagues them. Yet, the
trouble arises when Keriann tries to point out the truth to Iolite and confront
Jackob His heart becomes cluttered with
the emotion of love even while his mind screams of betrayal, yet he's never
loved any other wolf like Jackob, nor any witch like Iolite.
Finally,
we've come to Derrick. Reluctant hero,
former spy and unlike my previous heroes, puma shifter, not wolf. He spent time in a three letter organization
until the nightmares and life of a spook grated on him and tore him down. After he retired, a friend came to him asking
for a favor, altering his main mission of relaxing and staying off the
grid. Only for love, will he be able to
change, grow, and address some of the issues plaguing him, but he remains
unaware until a few chance encounters with a beautiful witch with a deadly
voice crosses his path.
The
elements of paranormal romance have allowed me to dig deeper, hit the
animalistic urges not often realized in contemporary romances OR in humans
outside the kink scene. Each of the
stories takes a look at those darker elements and allow the heroines to do what
I believe a romance heroine should be allowed to do: Stand firm yet give just enough to let the
hero grow on his own. As a reader drawn
to the likes of JR Ward, Lora Leigh and Christina Dodd's para-rom, I've taken
great pains to ensure I've learned the lessons from those wonderful authors and
made my stories my own, yet peppered them properly so you the reader will enjoy
them and beg for more.
After
all, I am the bad boy of romance.

trusts only himself until even that trust is betrayed by an operation gone
bad. Now hooked on the drugs he's trying
to eradicate, Joséf vows to take as much of the criminal organization down as
possible before he dies. Except during a
fight, the Queen of the Night comes with her lover to his rescue and to abduct
him.
Capture
quickly turns to seduction until Joséf learns the real reason for his
kidnapping: Recover Isabella's boy. The human in him still sees the good of his
act, yet the beast Livía accidentally unleashes presents an all new
threat. Can the threesome recover
Isabella's son, topple the Syndicate and stop the threats on their lives?
